It's not easy being one!

Micah has had a rough day. Actually, it didn't start out too bad. He's learning that he can lay awake in his crib and entertain himself by playing with the toy aquarium or just hang out. It used to be that he screamed if he was awake and alone in his crib.

What did start the day on a low note was his runny nose. It's the second day of green boogers, but I guess today he's a little better than yesterday. I brought the boys (dry) cereal and sippy cups of milk while I did some laundry and got dressed. Micah discovered that a bowl on the head is a fun hat! (Pictures to come if I can ever get this thing to load them)

We watched some PBS kids shows...Charles could NOT miss the new show, Dinosaur Train...read some books and then headed to Grandma's house to use the treadmill. I decided with runny noses it would be better to be inside and in front of the TV than out in the fresh air, chocked full of mosquitoes and allergens!

I used the restroom before getting on the treadmill only to hear Micah scream bloody murder. Of course I didn't see what happened, but saw light sabers on the ground near the victim and his brother. I picked up Micah and noticed his nose was bleeding. Of course he wouldn't sit still so I could apply pressure and wipe the faucet that has taken over his little nose.

Then, it was time to walk. I got started and before a minute was even up Micah was on the treadmill and thrown to the end and into the wall. Poor baby. But, it was a lesson from the school of hard knocks. He didn't try it again. Thankfully he did not show any signs of injury. I was trying frantically to turn off the machine as he was climbing on.

Back at home he fell down a couple of stairs. Again no injuries, but traumatic all the same. How it happened I don't know, but I imagine he was playing with the gate we have mounted at the top of the steps. I had left it open so the boys could join me in the basement. As a side note, Micah was carrying his fork. If the boy could talk I'm sure he'd say "I'll do it myself." I didn't think that would occur for another year or two, but it seems to have arrived. He wants to feed himself with a spoon so I gave up baby food many months ago.

Today I gave him a child's fork to see if he could stab the macaroni and cheese or hot dogs he had for lunch. He actually was able to get a piece of hot dog on the fork and in his mouth, but spit it out. I guess he's got good motor skills, but not eating skills. He did, however BEG for a piece of bread when I was making toast for breakfast. And, when I sat down with mine, he wanted it even though he had his own piece of bread. I was mean, I didn't toast his, gave him the heel, and didn't slather it with peanut butter and Mom/Grandma's homemade raspberry jelly. I guess those are the privileges of being the Mom!

Birthdays

August was full of birthdays here's a list...

  • August 1--Micah, age 1
  • August 6--Sharon (my mother-in-law)
  • August 8--Christy (my sister)
  • August 11--Mason (my cousin)
  • August 15--Charles, age 3
  • August 15--Carson (my nephew) was born
  • August 20--Heather (my sister-in-law)

This is just a list of family members, we've got LOTS of friends who've got birthdays too (Jeremy, Kirsten, Joel, Joel's Amy, and Imie III, to name a few)! We've also got several extended family members with birthdays too, but I don't know all the dates for those.

We also have several anniversaries too...

  • August 7--Stephanie & Paul
  • August ??--Jane & Bob
  • August 14--John & Lola
  • August 15--Mom & Dad, 39 years (yes, they share their anniversary with two grandsons' birthdays)
  • August 31--Russell & Stacey, 7 years

We had a big birthday party planned for August 8th, the week between Charles & Micah's birthdays. But, that afternoon I came down with the flu. Luckily it only lasted about 24 hours, but in the meantime we had to cancel the party and I spread the bug to both Russ' mom and sister.

I was happy to feel well enough to watch Charles open all the presents (while Micah at the paper). There were quite a few even though it was just Russell's family and my family brave enough to face the germs! We have Charles his big gift that night...Better Batter Baseball.

I've tried several times to upload pictures, but I never am able to do so. Sorry! Maybe it'll work again in the future. In the meantime, check Facebook for photos!
