Kids Day Inn

Today was Charles' first day of "school!" We have him enrolled in a mom's day out program at the church around the corner. It's called Kids Day Inn. We talked about school yesterday and that we'd be going today. We also went to Meet the Teacher on Monday. He was doing fine until it was time to drop him at the door. He walked in from the parking lot carrying his Elmo lunch box and walked down the hall just fine. But, there was congestion in the hall outside the room and I think that gave him time to get hesitant. He cried when they took him in the room.

Micah and I used the free time to return some things to Babies R Us and scour the clearance rack for clothes. We found some cute Carter's onesies and pants that all coordinate and used a gift card we got as a gift. I always like getting more for my money!

Then, we went to Grandma's office so she could show off her baby. I worked in the office when I was in college, so they all like to know what I'm doing. Mom's worked there for over 20 years and a few others haven't been there quite as long, but know our whole family so they like to know about Christy, Brian, and Heather too. We had lunch at Subway and then rant to Dillon's to mail some bills and check out the clearance rack.

Charles gets picked up at 1:30 so I hurried back across town to get him. He saw me in the hallway while I was waiting on other parents picking up kids in his class. He was ready to go! Charles didn't want to hold my hand and took off in the foyer of the church. Tantrum #1 ensued. Then we headed for the door on the other side of the foyer and he had another melt down. This time he threw himself on the floor and laid on his back kicking his feet. Tantrum #2. How embarrassing! But, thankfully no one was around. If there had been any people they'd commiserate since they would be picking up a child the same age.

Finally we got to the car. Charles wanted to be carried but it was impossible given the fact I had his diaper bag, lunch box, my purse, and Micah in his infant carrier. We got buckled in and drove home which is literally around the corner. At home we still were out of sorts, but managed to get inside thanks to the "counting to three" method of discipline. Charles had to poop...something we're working on, so that helped us hurry in the door. We got to the bathroom in time and he was rewarded with an M & M.

In the last week or so we've only changed a few poopy diapers. Mostly because Russell & I are trained to read the signals, but it's working and Charles knows what we're talking about and what to do when we get on the potty. Sometime in the near future I need to focus all our time at home on using the potty, but right now I don't have the energy. It doesn't help that 3 days each week we're not home. We have MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, Bible study starts next week on Wednesday mornings, and Thursdays Charles goes to Kids Day Inn. Guess I'll figure something out. Hopefully he'll catch on quickly and it won't be such a chore.

I do have a picture of him before we left the house, but I don't have the camera down here. I'll get it downloaded...sometime!

1 Month

Micah is now four weeks old--a whole month has passed! Today we had his one-month well-child check-up. He's just over 9 pounds and is 22 1/4 inches, which translates into the 50th percentile for weight and the 75th percentile for length. I told Dr. Scott I thouht he was long and skinny and sure enough...I was right! The doctor said Micah's just like his Dad! Yep, Russell is long and lean, of which I'm very jealous! A good trait to inherit. I'm sure if we should by some chance have a daughter she won't be so lucky...God has a sense of humor that way!

It's only the 3rd of August, but it feels more like October or November, the high today is only supposed to be 68 degrees. How nice it feels to dig out long pants and a sweatshirt!

Micah was up a lot last night so I need to go get him down for a nap so I can get one too. We've got a busy week and weekend ahead of us. And, this cool weather is perfect for sleeping. My housework will still be there when I get up!
